How to Build a Men’s Wardrobe

Build for your real week, not an imaginary lifestyle. Count the situations you actually dress for and give the most space to the ones that repeat.

Map your weekly roles

List work, off-duty, exercise, dates, events and travel. The proportion of your closet should roughly follow how often those situations occur.

Choose a compatible palette

Pick two or three core neutrals and a small set of accents. Compatibility matters more than owning every fashionable color.

Build in layers

Start with trousers, shirts and shoes; then add knitwear and jackets that work with multiple combinations.
